Kagba N. Suaray

Kagba N. Suaray is an associate professor of statistical science at the University of Toronto. He spent over two decades as a professor of mathematics and statistics at California State University at Long Beach, where he led initiatives that expanded access to data science for diverse learners. His work integrates evidence-based pedagogy, culturally responsive curriculum design, and community-embedded research experiences that help all students see themselves as capable practitioners in quantitative fields. Suaray is the architect and co-principal investigator of the Long Beach-Compton Data Science Learning Community and a founding member of the Hesabu Circle, a collective that cultivates mathematical identity and belonging for Black students. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in physics from California State University, Long Beach, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at San Diego.
