Mathematics achievement is not just about skills and problem-solving; it is deeply tied to a student’s sense of belonging. Both students’ and educators’ perceptions of who can succeed in math have a powerful influence on student engagement, learning, and persistence in mathematics. Many students, particularly those from marginalized groups, report feeling excluded or undervalued in math classrooms and conversations. In this session, we explored how building an inclusive learning community can strengthen students’ sense of belonging and shape a positive math identity.
