Completing math requirements can be the biggest academic barrier to success for STEM students, especially those seeking a path from community college to careers in STEM. According to a recent report by Just Equations, only two percent of community college students earn a STEM degree in six years. Inconsistent requirements and lack of transparency contribute to this narrow pathway to STEM, impacting not just students’ college and career opportunities, but also economic opportunity and innovation.
The webinar, co-hosted by Just Equations and TPSE Math, delved into the issue of math requirements for STEM degrees, particularly how completing these requirements can become the biggest academic barrier to success for students. Educational leaders and experts shared research and experiences on this pressing issue in math education and provided a pathway forward.
